Ok…So, it seems a bit early to be thinking about the Holidays, BUT if you are considering organizing a holiday fundraiser, now is the time to start planning!
Towards the end of November, its like a “holiday switch” goes on. Everyone starts decorating, shopping, and spreading holiday cheer. Why not leverage this idea of holiday cheer? This is the time of year when people become more generous and see “giving” even more beneficial than receiving.
The holiday season is a perfect time for fundraising!
This year, try to be be more creative in your holiday fundraising efforts. Think outside the box. Instead of just selling pointsettias, nativity sets or wrapping paper, why not sell discount shopping cards? Since people are planning to make a number of purchases in the next few weeks, selling a $10 shopping card that offers numerous discounts will easily pay for itself, creating a win-win situation for your group and donors!
Here’s a unique idea. Instead of selling anything, how about offering a holiday service?
Holiday Fundraising Service Ideas:
– Holiday Decorating Fundraiser (or Decor-A-Thon): Organize a fundraiser (similar to a walk-a-thon) where your group collects donations and online pledges for decorating services. Have people sign-up for specific time-slots during a pre-determined “Decor-a-thon” Weekend. Then have your group visit homes in your community to help set-up outdoor lights, decorate trees, etc. Consider offering a drop-off location for donated holiday decorations (lights, tree-stands, ornaments, candles and wreaths) and consider selling these for additional revenue.
– Gift Wrapping Services: Partner with a local mall and set up a fundraising table in the center community area (where Santa usually appears for photos). When people finish their shopping and jump in line to get their photos, let them drop off their newly purchased gifts for you to gift-wrap. Charge a fee for your services and set out a donation jar for extra tips. Consider offering a holiday fundraising raffle. Sell raffle tickets to shoppers and every hour give out gift certificates and prizes from participating retailers.
