Reach out to local businesses and utilize your network to secure donated prizes that will appeal to your audience such as: hotel stays or weekend get-away packages, gift certificates from local restaurants and retail locations, and entertainment such as tickets to a professional sporting event. Don’t be afraid to think ouside-the-box. How about Service donations? Contact local businesses and request them to donate a few hours of “free labor”. These types of businesses could include: house-cleaning services, landscaping or handy-man services, or babysitting.
Now that you’ve reached out to local businesses and affiliates to secure donated prizes to auction off….look at your offerings. Do you provide a wide selection to appeal to a broad audience? Do you have any big-ticket items that will bring in large bids? Afterall, that is the premise behind hosting a charity auction. How can you increase your revenue by offering expensive auction items…without putting your organization at risk? What if nobody bids on the items? Is your organization responsible?

One customer, Tres Robertson of Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi explains, “The No Risk Auction Items were non-complicated and very easy to include in our charity auction event. We offered four different packages, and not only were they lucrative, but one package brought in more money than any other auction item. The feedback we received from guests who purchased the packages was extremely positive. We’ll continue to offer these items in future charity auctions”
