Fairburn Youth Association Hosts Walk-a-thon

The Fairburn Youth Association (FYA) is holding a walk-a-thon on November 6, 2013, Walk for Education. FYA’s annual pledge drive is the main fundraising effort for the Fairburn School which consistently ranks as one of the top ten schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and their school walk-a-thon provides money that goes directly to essential services that enrich their students’ academic environment.

What sets Walk for Education apart from other pledge fundraising drives is the inclusion of an artwork contest for the walk-a-thon t-shirt. Every student will have a chance to win. Giving students the opportunity to create art in the spirit of raising money for their school is an enriching opportunity for them to learn. And donors will enjoy the lesson as well as the artful t-shirt created through this spirited contest.

Walk for Education is teaching the children of Fairburn School about how a healthy lifestyle can contribute to overall esteem, productivity, and enjoyment of life, making walk-a-thons one of the most popular school fundraising ideas. With every school fundraising campaign, there exists the added benefit of teaching children about community service and being a part of something larger than themselves. In addition, using online pledge software will increase involvement from students by giving them the opportunity to customize their own personal fundraising page. They are not only helping to raise much-needed funds, but learning that helping out can be fun and rewarding.

Fairburn Elementary School’s booster club raises funds to provide their students with extra services and enrichment programs that are otherwise not provided for in the school’s operating budget. FYA is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation, which allows for tax-deductible donations. For pledge events such as this, donors may make donations online through a secure credit card processing service, or by printing out a pledge form and turning their contribution into the school office.

To hold a successful walk-a-thon your organization will need to engage with your community, be well organized and plan ahead. You will find free walk-a-thon resources online to help you in achieving success.
