Tis the season to be jolly, thankful, and joyous. The holiday not only bring family and loved ones together to exchange gifts, but also bring Christian organizations together to celebrate one of the biggest days of their Faith – the birth of Jesus Christ. During this time of celebration, people tend to open their hearts and their wallets in an effort to give to those less fortunate. Therefore many organizations of faith choose this time of year for fundraising.
Here we share some festive church fundraising ideas for the holiday season.
1. Bethlehem Walk-a-thon: A unique fundraising idea for a church group during the holidays would be to invite community members to join the congregation on a journey to the Biblical city of Bethlehem. This fundraising walk can be organized by setting up a guided tour with numeous scenes that take people through the event that led up to the birth of Jesus such as: Joseph and Mary’s search for a place to stay, the visit from the angel to the lowly shepherds, the journey of the wise men and looking for the new born king, and the birth of Jesus in the stable. Your church request donations for admission and include a printout that tells the story as people walk through the lighted maze and displays. In addition to accepting donations on-site, church members could also create individual fundraising page to request online donations from friends and family who may not be able to attend.
2. Christmas Tree of Hope. One fun way for members of your contribution to give back is to partner with a children’s home or homeless shelter and offer a Giving Tree. Unfortunately, not all children wake up Christmas morning with presents under the tree. With this fundraiser, children write their wishes on small cards which are placed on the tree like ornaments. Families are welcome to browse the different “wishes” on the tree and choose one item to purchase for a less fortunate child. All presents are delivered to the home bringing cheer. The church could also set up an online donation website where families unable to physically purchase items could make online donations.
3. Holiday Concert. Another idea would be to engage the congregation to organize a holiday concert or fundraising event. Community members would be invited to enjoy music, nativity displays, lights, carolers, and perhaps some hot-cocoa or refreshments. The church could choose to charge an admission or request donations could on-site to support one of the missions. Another wonderful addition to any fundraising event is an online charity auction. Prior to the event, church administration could reach out to local businesses and members of the congregation to request prize donations. these items could be featured at the event or on an online auction website allowing community members to place bids on items that would not only be wonderful Christmas gifts, but also go towards supporting a worthy cause.
Whatever fundraiser you choose to host to raise money for your church, this festive time of year provides an excellent opportunity to ride on the excitement and generosity of your congregation and community, Check out more holiday fundraising ideas.
