It seems like Color Runs are popping up all over the place. So what’s all the buzz about? A Color Run is a running event where participants and observers throw brightly colored powder on the runners. The event is generally non-competitive and the emphasis is on having fun. This popular event type has also become a fun and creative way to raise money for non-profit organizations.
The basic rules of a Color Run are:
- All participants wear a white t-shirt to start the race
- Anyone can throw colored powder on runners
After runners complete the race, the fun usually continues with a post-event celebration. The party includes music, dancing and massive color throws – which create vivid color combinations on everyone in sight. This post-party also provides an excellent opportunity to raise additional fundraising dollars by hosting a fundraising raffle, selling food, beverages, memorabilia, and more. Perhaps having a photo booth on site for participants to capture the memorable event and consider bringing in notable celebrities or musicians to attract a crowd and bring the media to the event.
Why not make your next fundraising event a color run?
A Color Run Fundraiser is hosted very similarly to a walk-a-thon fundraiser, where your participants pay a registration fee and/or collect donations in an effort to raise money for your charitable cause. Since thousands of people worldwide are signing up to participate in color run events, can you imagine how successful your organization could be with your advocates raising online donations for your organization?
Color Runs also work well for kids and make great elementary school fundraisers. Just be sure to use non-toxic color power.
Utilizing P2P Crowdfunding Software for Color Runs
With DoJiggy Crowdfunding software, each participant can easily create a personal fundraising page where they upload photos and videos, mission statements, and securely collect online donations for your cause. Runners send out their fundraising website via email and social media sharing to family and friends in advance of the event.
By making the event an online fundraising campaign, participants are able to extend their reach and therefore raise more money for the supporting cause. Many organizations report raising 2-3 times more money by taking their Fun Runs online with DoJiggy.
First Priority recently hosted a Color Run for the Gospel fundraiser using DoJiggy’s template for Color Runs, which resulted in more than $10,000 raised for their cause helping to connect the church to reach students on over 165 campuses in seven counties.
